History of Oakville Dads
Our Story
Oakville Dads Group founder Jeremy Sims really liked the concept and idea of a dads group for local dads to connect, vent, recommend, and share info. It was created 5 years ago and is rocking along with over 5,200 members.
Events, Activities and Locations
Pub nights, Special movie screenings, Xmas parade floats, Beer tasting, Impromptu pints on the patio, Whisky tasting, Golf tournaments and our infamous Xmas pub crawl are some of the events we put on for our members. Recently we’ve added in the Xmas parade float, comedy nights and milestone celebration nights at some of our fine local establishments.
Our first-ever event was a Pub night at Firehall, a local establishment in the heart of Bronte Village – a tourist haven in Oakville. We had about 25 men show up as strangers and leave as friends. There were some cool prizes for trivia winners and we had some laughs and great discussions for future events. After another successful pub night, we ventured out on a pub crawl in the Xmas season of 2019. We visited local spots Cove, Plank, WestEnd Social and Firehall.
Initially the pubs and drinking beer were very common threads that many men share. We chose to do this to try to engage the community and start the group off in a fun and social way. Members have been making awesome suggestions for alternative ways for our members to connect. Health challenges, bowling nights, adventure trips, community clean up events, fundraising and supporting great causes are other means we can help ourselves and our communities.
Raising Money for Charities
We setup a partnership with the Oakville Community Foundation in 2022 and have been going strong ever since. We created an Oakville Dads Community Fund which allows us to raise money to 2 main groups: Oakville Foodbank and Oakville Meals on Wheels. Last year we were able to create a scholarship fund and donated 4 gifts of $1000 to the students post-secondary institution.
Our first Father’s Day Auction raised over $5,000 to start up our charitable fund, and we moved on to our first golf tournament at Deerfield golf course that raised $18,000. The last 2 golf tournaments were held at prestigious Glen Abbey golf course and raised $25,000 and $40,000 respectively.
